Frequently Asked Questions

We’re a good fit for projects that benefit from careful planning, collaboration, and attention to detail. This includes full home renovations, kitchens and baths, historic restorations, and custom commercial spaces like restaurants.

Our clients tend to value being part of the process. They want to understand what’s being done, why it’s being done, and feel confident in the decisions along the way.

If that’s how you like to work, we’ll be a strong fit.

Yes. We have a deep respect for older homes and the stories they carry.

We work with you to understand what matters most. We’ll help you discern what should be preserved, what needs to function better, and recommend thoughtful updates where they make sense. The goal is to improve the space without losing what makes it meaningful to you in the first place.

We can do both, and we’re comfortable meeting you wherever you are in the process.

Some clients come with plans. Others come with ideas. In either case, we work alongside you to think through how the space will function, how materials will perform, and how everything comes together before construction begins.

Our in-house interior designer plays a key role in that process, helping translate ideas into cohesive, buildable plans and guiding selections so everything feels aligned.

That shared clarity upfront leads to better decisions and a smoother build.

We start by listening. Not just to what you want to build, but to how you want it to feel and function day-to-day.

From there, we work together to develop a clear plan, and take the time to resolve details early so you’re not forced into rushed decisions later.

During construction, we stay engaged and accountable. You’ll know where things stand, what’s coming next, and when your input is needed. It’s a steady, collaborative process, not one where you’re left guessing.

Earlier than most people expect.

Good work takes planning, and planning takes time. Reaching out early gives us the opportunity to think through your project together, align on priorities, and set it up the right way from the beginning.

Even if you’re still figuring things out, that’s a good time to start the conversation.

Start a conversation with us about your project now.

We treat budget conversations as part of the partnership, not a one-time number.

Early on, we’ll talk through realistic ranges based on your goals and the type of work involved. As the plan becomes more defined, so does the pricing.

Along the way, we help you understand tradeoffs so you can make informed decisions, including where to invest, where to simplify, and how to stay aligned with your priorities.

Yes, but you won’t be doing it alone or under pressure.

We guide you through decisions in a way that’s structured and manageable. The goal is to make the important calls early, when there’s time to think them through.

When something comes up during construction, we’ll walk you through your options and give you clear input so you can move forward with confidence.

We approach every project as a shared responsibility.

We don’t just execute a scope, we work with you to understand the intent behind it, and we stay engaged from start to finish to make sure that intent carries through.

We plan carefully, communicate directly, and take ownership of the details. The result is a process you can trust, and a finished space that reflects the decisions we made together.

Yes, and it’s often where a project becomes truly tailored.

Custom fabrication allows us to solve specific challenges and create pieces that belong in the space, rather than forcing something standard to fit. Examples of items we’ve fabricated include furniture, metal accents, and historic pieces missing from an original design. Just ask us about the Victorian speaking tube!

We work with you to design and build elements that support how the space functions and how it feels, all the way down to the finer details.

We focus on projects where collaboration and planning meaningfully impact the outcome.

If your project is smaller in scope, we’re happy to talk it through and help you determine whether it’s a good fit, or point you in the right direction if it’s not.

We’re based in Manhattan, Kansas, and primarily serve the surrounding region.

If your project is outside the area, reach out. If it’s the right fit, we’re open to the conversation.

You’ll be working with a small, experienced team led by John Stamey, with a dedicated project manager assigned to your project. They’ll be your primary point of contact, keeping things on track, communicating clearly, and making sure nothing gets lost along the way. We stay involved from planning through construction, so there’s continuity in both decision-making and execution. You won’t be handed off, you’ll work with the same team from start to finish.

Clear communication is one of the most important parts of a successful project. We stay in touch through a combination of in-person conversations, phone calls, email, and Buildertrend, our project management platform. You’ll receive regular updates, photos, schedule information, and notifications as work progresses.

We also believe that no app can replace a real conversation. If questions come up, we’re available to talk through them and help you make informed decisions along the way. Our goal is for you to always know what’s happening, what’s next, and what to expect.

Absolutely. Restoring and remodeling older homes is one of our specialties. We understand that the character of a home often lies in the details, from trim profiles and built-ins to original woodwork, doors, and architectural features.

Whenever possible, we work to preserve and replicate the elements that make a home unique while updating the spaces behind the walls for modern comfort and functionality. We enjoy the challenge of finding creative solutions that honor a home’s history while meeting the needs of today’s homeowners.

Those projects are often some of our favorites because they allow us to blend craftsmanship, problem-solving, and respect for the original design.
