Done right, an addition feels like it’s always been part of the house. Done poorly, it reads as an afterthought, creates problems with flow and function, and can introduce structural issues that compound over time. Common Addition Types We Build
We build primary bedroom suites, kitchen expansions, family room additions, sunrooms, mudrooms, and secondary living spaces. We also work on more complex projects like second-story additions and additions that require significant structural modification to the existing home. In each case, we begin with a thorough analysis of the existing structure and a clear design process before any work begins.
Designing for Integration
The most important question in any addition project is how the new space will connect to what already exists. This means thinking about ceiling heights, floor levels, exterior material and roofline continuity, how natural light moves through the expanded home, and how traffic flows from old space to new. We work through these questions deliberately in the design phase, because decisions made on paper are far less expensive than changes made during construction.
Structural Honesty
Older homes, in particular, require careful evaluation before any addition work begins. We assess foundation conditions, existing framing, and load-bearing walls before developing a structural approach. We work with engineers when required, and we communicate clearly about what the existing structure can and can’t support. You’ll understand the full scope of what you’re building before you commit to it.

Addition projects involve permitting, coordination with utility providers, sequencing of trades, and weather management during the period when your home is open to the elements.
